Trains are widely used in India

Trains are highly used in India and passengers also use the train toilet during the journey.
Previously, the train toilet was an open system, which allowed the waste to fall straight down onto the track, which increased the chances of rusting the track as well as dirt and grime on the track, as well as when the train stopped at the station. There was also litter, or some trains had tanks to store waste, which had to be emptied after the journey.
But then Indian Railways adopted the best system.

They introduced "bio toilet" in the train.
In a bio-toilet, the waste is not allowed to go down the drain, but is stored in a special tank-like system, where there are special types of anaerobic bacteria, which feed on the waste, and for this the waste is subjected to several chemical reactions. pass through the factors, after passing through which the waste releases water and biogas (methane), the same biogas that is installed in the plant in which the dung is used.

This biogas and water is stored, then the water is filtered and used in various functions in the train itself. Such as for use in the toilet or for cleaning and washing the train. While the biogas produced in this way is used as a fuel for cooking, or used in special generators to generate electricity, heaters and geysers can be run in winter.
After doing all these processes, a small amount of waste is also stored which is later disposed of or can be used as a natural fertilizer.

According to the data of 2021, bio-toilets have been installed in 70 percent of the passenger trains of Indian Railways. This system will also save the money spent on track repairs, according to estimates, this saving will be 400 crores of Indian rupees which is more than 1500 crores of Pakistan.

This technology in trains was introduced by the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). This method is not new, we already knew that bacteria can produce biogas, water and fertilizer from waste in this way, but by fitting this method to a place of need, turning a loss into a profit is admirable and It is worth learning, and that is the beauty of science.
